Call me Ellie... number five of nine kids, raised in Vancouver, WA. I grew up playing in the road, eating Mom's rhubarb crisp, and neglecting to brush my hair. I'd always planned an exotic, free-spirited future for myself... teaching literacy to the bush children of South America or something. But God laughed and life happened His way and I thank Him for that constantly. I met my best friend and husband in high school; we dated our senior year and were married at age 19. He is a builder in the Navy and we've weathered four deployments together. Our oldest son is four, Xavier. Then there's Leo, just two years behind him. Finally, we welcomed Dominic into our family in September '06, all at the ripe old age of 25.
Unlike the co-conspirators of this blog, I do not have any extraordinary artistic talents to dazzle you with, but I play a mean game of Balderdash and am an expert fort builder. I take good photos once in a while, pick up running in between pregnancies, and write nasty letters to the newspaper when something gets my ire. I love reading, writing, movie critiquing, Spanish, the smell of old books, unique wind chimes, gnarled old trees, orchids, board games, cold cereal at night, homemade anything, and other rare morsels of inspiration to be found in nature, my family, my friends... or my Faith..

Mothering never came naturally to me. It was something that I have had to work on and learn as I go. Oftentimes, I have to consciously fight to keep the ultimate goal in mind. And yes, I mess up... sometimes big. But I know without a doubt that God has called me to this vocation for a reason... and I embrace my cross even if it's with some reluctance at times. The joy my husband and children have provided for me can never compare to the "bad days" I've had. And while the kids of South America may be missing out... I praise God for keeping me right here with my family in a small house in a small town on a cold island in Northwest Washington.

Let
the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your
sight, O Lord, my Strength and Redeemer. - Psalm
